CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC FOR RENOVATION
Known simply as the Rocca (Fortress), this military redoubt, built close to the city walls in the 13th century, has come to symbolise Imola.
Rebuilt several times to upgrade its defences, it is a valuable example of historical military architecture. Visitors can admire the collections of weapons and ceramics, examine the artillery in the basements, see the dungeons that once held prisoners… and read the words they scratched into the walls of their cells.
They can also stroll along the battlements and climb to the highest point, the keep, the perfect viewpoint from which to take in the historic town and the rolling hills beyond.
