Completed in 2021, the Linden Tree Cycle and Pedestrian Path (Ciclopedonale dei Tigli) offers a leisurely exploration of the flatlands surrounding the Comune of Castel Guelfo di Bologna. It is suitable for both cyclists and pedestrians with the added convenience of nighttime street lighting.
The path starts at the Borgo, the triangular square situated right outside the village walls with an access gate to the town centre “Campanazzo”, continues along via Stradone in the direction of Bologna and ends at via Larga. The cycle path is lined by tall linden trees and is approximately one mile long. The origins of via Stradone date back to 1701. In the past, the Palio dei Cavalli (horse race) was held here, and in more recent times the “linden mile” footrace (‘Miglio del tiglio’).
It is an easy to walk and entirely flat route, suitable for adults and children who wish to spend their leisure time in the open air and enjoy the shade and the scent of the majestic trees, which are in bloom between May and June.
The recommended itinerary follows the cycle path all the way to the end, then turns left into via Larga, left again into via Modoni, then left again onto via Canale which rejoins the Borgo, the starting point of the walk.
