The museum is housed in the Baronial Palace, formerly the feudal residence of the Altemps. It was rebuilt after the war and restored in order to be used as a museum.
After hosting since 1999 Valter Mita's donation of a collection of objects gathered during the last 30 years and belonging to the Santerno valley, in 2022 the Palace was reopened with the new permanent exhibition of Geological Museum of Vena del gesso Romagnola).
The Museum tells the geological history of Regional Park of Gypsum Vein, extending from Ravenna province to Borgo Tossignano: an interesting journey through millennia, up to the formation of the "moon stone", the gypsum, which shines all over the chalk mountain ridge that crosses the park.
To enjoy a fantastic view on Santerno Valley and the Vena del gesso (gypsum vein), access the garden on the terrace of Baronial palace.
Per godere di una vista speciale sulla valle del Santerno e sulla vena del Gesso, si può accedere ad una terrazza con giardino all'interno del Museo.
