Castel del Rio
Known for its long-standing chestnut-growing tradition, the town is home to the consortium that protects one of Italy’s best-known foods, the PGI-certified Marrone (Chestnut) of Castel del Rio. Over 30% of the wooded areas here are chestnut groves.
One of them houses the Le Selve tourist complex, which provides accommodation and camping facilities in the heart of the woodland. In October, the complex offers on-site picking of the tasty chestnuts. To get there, just follow Via Ambrogini up to Via Le Selve 680.
