A unique event taking place in September, the ‘Biennale del Muro Dipinto’ originated in the 1960s, making Dozza a free, open-air art gallery that can be visited 24/7.
This ‘gallery’ consists of frescoes and reliefs on the walls of the houses themselves, permanent works produced by the artists who are invited every two years. The ‘Muro Dipinto’ has transformed the facades of the village homes into true works of art, their murals reflecting the history, atmosphere and traditions of the old borgo and the surrounding hills.
The paintings frame
nearly every window, doorway and shopfront, offering everything from bright
splashes of colour to harmonized hues. They make Dozza a pictorial anthology,
an open-air art gallery unlike any other, not just because the works span half
a century but also because they’re deeply entwined with the place for which
they were conceived.
