Nettarina (nectarine peach) is fleshy and very juicy because it contains a high quantity of water. It is also rich in soluble pectin, which is helpful in controlling the cholesterol and glycemic levels. Nettarina contains various organic acids which are responsible for its pleasant taste. Being poor in fat, it does not strain the stomach and the liver.

Historical and Geographical Information:
The peach-tree belongs to the Rosaceae family. Many varieties exist which are classified into two main species, i.e. “Persica vulgaris” and “Persica laevis”. The latter gave origin to the nectarine peaches, which are popularly called “pesche noci” (walnut peaches) because of their smooth skin. Nectarine peaches have been grown in Romagna since a long time. Indeed, they are mentioned (under the name of “pesche noci”) in “L’economia del cittadino in villa”, a 17th century agriculture treatise written by Vincenzo Tanara, a renowned agronomist from Bologna. The first peach-orchard in Emilia-Romagna can be found in 1898. Located in Giuseppe Gianstefani’s estate in Massalombarda (Ravenna), it marked the beginning of industrial fruit growing in this area.
