The Cassero was erected over 8 centuries ago to defend the territory of Bologna.
The new fortress was built first in wood and then turned several times depending on the needs of the militias that have gradually conquered the castle.
Over the centuries wood was replaced with red brick terrace on the battlements appeared, disappeared up the drawbridge.
The clock tower was built as early as the '200, but originally had neither windshield nor bells, because the peak was used for the fireworks for military use in wartime.
Clock and bell came much later, in 1784, when the tower already hosted shows and plays and had long since lost its function as militaristic.
