The territory of Medicina is completely plain (m.25 asl) and is crossed by several creeks and drainages descending from the nearby hills ( Idice, Quaderna Gaiana, Channel of Medicina, Sillaro, Garda, Fossatone) which converge in the valleys near the Reno river (formerly Po Primaro).

The southern area along Via San Vitale is characterized by a more intense settlement and family-owned farms; the area north of the road and Emilia Romagna's Canal, is dominated by more extended cultivation.

The reclaimed lands are called "le larghe" (wide lands).

In this part of territory crossed by rivers, there are still wet areas (valleys, expansion basins, ponds) having both a unique environmental and historical value in the plain of Bologna both an important role in economy, culture and tourism.
