The church of S. Maria della Salute is placed in the center of Medicina and dates back to the XII - XIV century.
It was originally a chapel with an adjoining Pilgrim Fathers' hospital called Oratory of St. Anthony of the Pilgrims.
The present church was built in place of the oratory in the second decade of the eighteenth century, designed by Ferdinand Bibiena.
It has a front portico with three arches at the bottom, and a front gabled rounded top.
The interior has a nave with two side altars. The small scenic "transparent" lighting up the vault of the nave and chancel are typical of Bibiena style.
Frescoes by Bigari and other local decorators have been rediscovered in the vaults.
The stuccoes sculptures over the altar are works by Domenico Piò from Bologna.
Inside the church are held exhibitions, concerts and cultural events organized by church groups and non-parish activities for youngs and all the citizens.
