The church of Santa Maria della Pianta is 5 km north of the church of S.Maria del Sabbioso and it has been declared its subsidiary church.

A high altar tombstone dates the church back to 1321.
The church was originally dedicated to S. John the Baptist from Medesano, then the mid-16th century was dedicated to S. Maria della Pianta.
 It was rebuilt between 1763 and 1784 and it's one of the most beautiful churches in the diocese of Imola.
It seems that Martin Luther celebrated there a Mass during his trip to Rome.
