Il Borgo: the triangular square

After the important works in the old town, led by the Community and the landowners in the 15th and 16th centuries, Malvezzi family took care to make broader, functional and welcoming, the town area outside the castle walls.

The building of the Borgo (the village), in the early decades of the eighteenth century, gave a unique solution to this need.

From 1721 to 1724, the bolognese architect Luigi Casoli designed and directed the construction of the buildings the square, which make up the current "village".

The succession of wise and effective routes and organized spaces (straight-lined highway, open triangular square, walled castle) has remained until now the main urban character of the western entrance to the village.

This path was open to welcome those who came from Bologna, especially because the castle and its territory were closely and almost exclusively related to the city.
