Devil Bridge in Gallo Bolognese

 

The bridge has Roman origins because of the passage of Gaiana Stream, which crosses Via Emilia (S.S.9) in Gallo Bolognese.

It was mined and destroyed at the end of Second World War.

However, there are several postcards and images left, and a bas-relief commissioned by the Archaeological Board before the war.

The name of the bridge derives from the popular belief according to which particularly strange esoteric beings were present in this building.

The bridge was located in the fraction of Gallo Bolognese, approximately 5 kilometres far from Castel S. Pietro Terme. It was destroyed during Second World War.

Apart from the worry caused by the presence of spirits or other beings, which was a popular belief, it is true that the bridges were ideal places to ambush people and goods that passed by, and since the Devil Bridge was right in Via Emilia.
