Il Canale dei Molini (The Mills Canal) springs in Codrignano, approximately 9 km from Imola, and flows towards Imola, surrounding the town centre with its two branches.
Then it runs off towards Mordano and Ravenna.
The original function of this Roman channel was probably of town defence, then it was used for the reclamation of marshy lands and for handcraft activities: mills, tanneries, dyers' shops, laundries. One of the ancient mills in the town centre is still working: it is S. Cristina Mill, between Via Venturi and Via Saffi.
Address: viale Saffi, 50 - 40026 Imola (BO)
How to get to Imola
The Mills Canal, today mostly covered in town, is still visible at St. Cristina laundries in Via Saffi, in front of the Rocca Sforzesca (fortress).
An open stretch can be seen in Pedagna Ovest ward, along Via degli Orti and via Canale dei Mulini, which can be reached from the Racetrack heading towards Florence along Via Pirandello for approximately 500m, and turning left onto Via Santa Lucia.
