The building dates back to the middle of the 14th century, when the Augustinian fathers moved here from the previous convent.

It was renewed during the centuries and the present aspect is the one acquired after the works of the 18th century after the project of Domenico and Cosimo Morelli.
The church has a single aisle with barrel vault and three side-chapels for each side. There is also a valuable 18th century organ built by Giovanni Chianei.
